ahhh Texas

"Don't Mess with Texas," this is Texas's "please don't litter" sign.

We are in San Antonio now. Home of the Alamo, the San Antonio Rose and a beautiful river walk area. The river walk has stores, restaurants and small boats that you can take to cruise down the walk. It is very pretty, with covered bridges and roads over top of the riverwalk. Reminded me of the way Venice looks in the tourist magazines.

The infamous Alamo; of Davy Crockett, James bowie and "remember the Alamo" fame. Remember? The Alamo consists of a very beautiful stone church with artifacts from the 1836 stand/battle/massacre. Along with some resurrected stone walls. It was neat seeing this famous spot.

Speaking of Crockett...We ate a late lunch in Shilos Delicatessen (tasty German food) and there was an elderly man using a walker wearing a racoon hat, complete with a tail. I thought Jack should get one.. a hat not a walker. But he declined.

Speaking of Jack.. had his first hot birthday... hot as in weather, complete with presents, chocolate cake and of course a Mexican Dinner. A first for a lot of things. Happy Birthday Jack.

Meow!

Nathan heard me meow this morning and reminded me that I have not blogged in a while. He thought I was meowing because I heard his voice on the skypeyyy thingy… Really I was meowing because I had been up for at least 5 minutes and I had not been fed yet. But don’t tell Nathan that.

Hmmph, so while I have the time, as it is only a mere 30 degrees F. here this am, (wherever here is. we moved again. I don’t understand why we didn’t stay in the warm yard. 77 plus was perfect for me to sleep away the day… of course with ac as needed) … however I digress: I will not be going outside in this cold. So I can blog.

Although it is true that I:

  • make this journey bearable by demanding my particular wants when I want them ( hence the meowing this morning)
  • tolerate the foreign food and not my usual canned Canadian delights
  • found a use for the back of the couch... a viewing spot for when my house is stopped. (Saw a red jay yesterday and was only prevented reaching my prey by the window. Hmmph sigh).
  • trained both robin and jack to attend my every need. Jack was a bit tough, but I’ve worked him around, using the suckky kitty look.. works every time.
  • stand still while the leash is put on. I can get out of it anytime I really want to, so… I can be generous and let them believe that it is working. Hmmph
  • have decided to go along with the expedition and allow them to plan and execute the perfect holiday for moi!

I will never, and I mean never poop outside again!

Catch up

well, well weelll

A catching up blog. I hope...

After boxing day we moved venues. We spent a few days on the beach, Mustang Island to be exact, near Port Aransas. This is just outside of Corpus Christi. Our new home was pretty swanky.. the most fanciest and the most expensiviest that we've stayed at. However our internet did not work very well at this place so we were unable to post to the blog.

New years eve day was amazing.. 27 degrees and sun shine! Happy new year everyone!

The beach was great. We walked from our site, down a short boardwalk onto the sandy beach. People could camp on the beach, if they wanted, but we figured that the fifth wheeler was safer on concrete than in the sand dunes.

Our next stop was Mercedes Texas. This is where we are now. The weather is fantastic and the park is huge.. with lots of "winter Texans" many of whom are canucks. Lots to do at this park as it is a 55 plus park. Very friendly people and great internet access. so I can post photos later. Jack is getting over a cold and I'm dealing with my eyes.. but aside from these minor things we are doing great.. bye for now

Merry Christmas

Jack and Kit (Mufasa) had the rv decorated and ready for the big day when I got back from my trip.
It looked great with a real tree, lights and presents.
As well...The stockings were hung by the air conditioner with care.
We enjoyed pot luck christmas dinner with full timers that also reside in San Leon Texas RV park, at least for this season. Jack and I cooked a turkey and brought it over to share. Many firsts on this trip!

San Leon Texas

San Leon
Holed up in Texas for a couple of weeks.

Oil and gas in a big big way.

Our favorite activity - this place is a DIVE but the food was great

Wandering and found 'Candy cane lane' somewhere between San Leon and Houston

Robin is back to Vancouver and PG -so just me and my roommate Ray for 10 days

Layfayette

We’ve been singing (of course not in tune) Jambalaya, crawfish pie, ana filet gumbo for tonight I’m a gonna see…..my ma chere a mio.

We stayed in a small campground in the heart of Cajun country Lafayette. The drive from new Orleans through Louisiana was very interesting once we got a little ways from the coast. The road is a series of bridges built over swamp. The trees were scraggly pine covered in Spanish moss. A lot of french words in the names of the communities and the roads. Of course the word Cajun came from the term Acadian. We enjoyed some fantastic Cajun food at a famous restaurant called PreJeans. There was live toe tapping Cajun music. I wasn’t brave enough to try the alligator but did have spiced beef ribs with fried mac and cheese. Jack had crawfish pie, Seafood gumbo and shrimp ettouffe. For desert bread pudding with white chocolate. We have been enjoying our dinners out.
