Savannah

Whispering Pines

Cotton Fields

Decided in morning before setting out we wanted to see more of Carolinas so headed westish towards Athens Georgia and then to Aiken South Carolina, then south to Hardeeville SC, just north of Savannah. We are definitely out of the hills and mountains and more in the plains. Finally seeing some forest and logging, lots of whispering pine. Seeing some small cotton fields but are east of plantation area. Rural SC looks very poor.

We took a tour on trolley busses around historic Savannah and learned some history of Savannah. Saw some 18th century homes. Savannah is neat as the older area is built around these garden/park or squares. I found the area quite beautiful and southern looking. Jacks cousins had told us about Paula Deens (yes the cook from TV) restaurant, Lady and Sons, so we went there for lunch. It was very good!. Had collard greens, and chicken baked and fried, dirty rice and the most wonderful gravy on the potatoes. Jack had peach cobbler and I had a piece of butter cake.
